There were few other things in the world quite as satisfying as holding the first bound copy of your latest book and William was lucky enough to experience most of them in a day. Friday morning his editor had dropped by to hand him the first printed copy of his latest novel and he'd been looking it over all day. After all, he was stuck at home while his lover went and worked (because who worked these days, what with the recession and all) so he had nothing better to do than to read his own latest work and continually critique it. This was the reason he never understood it when people told him how great his series was. Whenever he read it? He found himself coming away with a slightly bad taste in his mouth because there were so many things he could have done better.

Too bad re-writing a New York Times bestseller isn't conducive to making money, or he'd be continually updating and re-doing each and every one of his books. He'd spent most of the day up in the study and it was near the time when Brendan was supposed to be home that he finally wandered downstairs. Trinket, who had grown quite quickly in the past months, greeted him with a wuffle and a wag of her tail which made him smile a little. Bending down he pat her head gently, thoughtfully. Things had become strangely...normal around the town. There was no longer any interest in the whispers of people with powers, or of billionaires hiding secrets.

No longer did William have to fear being hunted, or bother with little pissants like Dylan Hayes. He was allowed to live his life the way he wanted to, with Brendan and the ever faithful Carson who stopped by more often than not. As he thought he moved to just sit on the floor, Trinket rolling onto her back to offer up her belly for rubs which he gladly gave her.
